Speaking of Birthdays... Thursday, November 30, 2006
Today is basically Benjamin's 3 month birthday. Since November doesn't have a 31st, we're going to celebrate it today and tomorrow. He is truly the most amazing little baby, and his personality becomes more and more vibrant each day.
It’s snowy and cold here in Colorado. It was 9 degrees, the last time I checked. Brrr…I guess I still have a lot of Florida in me! Speaking of FL, in 72 hours Benjamin and I will be there! We leave on Saturday morning and arrive late in the afternoon. This will be Benjamin’s 2nd airplane trip…this kid will have traveled over 11,000 sky miles by January 1st! Oh, what a jet setting life we live…not!
I think that I finished my holiday shopping today; I ordered Andrew’s gift, which was the only major thing left. I cannot wait until we go to New York for Christmas. I have been looking forward to it for weeks, and now it’s only 22 days away! I absolutely despise being so far away from everyone.* This year will be particularly fun, because most of my best girlfriends will be in Potsdam celebrating with their families. I think that it may be the first time we’ve all been there at the same time in more than 5 years.
I totally forgot about my doctor’s appointment this afternoon, but fortunately it wasn’t a big deal, because they called me, not to remind me, but to ask me if I’d mind canceling because the weather was so cruddy. It’s funny how things work out like that.
Andrew is home tomorrow, so I am going to work on getting my work Christmas cards folded, stuffed, and stamped. I volunteered to do them since my distance usually allows me to snake out of doing projects like this. I also hope to get the “winning” picture for our family Christmas cards…that is easier said than done.
Here is Benjamin playing with his monkey that doesn’t do anything**
And then, the nap that follows all that playing.
*the level of how much I despise it rises exponentially when the temperature falls into the single digits.
We've got a lunker here! Monday, November 27, 2006
It’s official. We have a very large, but very proportionate baby boy. He is currently weighing in at 15 lbs and 8 ounces, and is just about 25 inches long. That is 92nd percentile in both height and weight…and like my friend pointed out, “It’s not like you and Andrew would have a petite baby.”
They say that the numbers don’t lie, but I don’t think he’s all that big. He has some nice rolls on his legs, but has a skinny little tummy, and at nearly 3 months is still fitting into most 0-3 month clothes. However, there is no doubt about it…you know he’s a heavy baby when you pick him up.
It was definitely a Monday, but I did manage to blow the inches of dust off the treadmill and go for a nice jog; 30 minutes of a jog. For those of you who know me well, that probably doesn’t seem like much, but it’s taken me a long time to heal from my c-section, but I’ve gotten the green light, and I am ready to get back in shape. I’ve gone for many, many walks with Benjamin since he’s been born, but this is the first time I really pushed myself.
I probably won’t be able to walk tomorrow.
It is bath time for Benjamin. Fingers crossed that he sleeps for longer than 90 minutes straight tonight.
I am so excited that we finally have V 1.0 of this site up and running. Andrew worked very hard on it last night, working on the final touches, and incorporating some of the design stuff that I had done. Still in the works, a great photo section, as well as a place to leave comments. Keep coming back for news and updates from the Colorado crew!
As mentioned yesterday, we did go to pick out our Christmas tree today. The tree farm was a lot closer to home than I had realized it was. This was great, because Benjamin is still a bit under the weather and we wanted to be out for as little time as possible. This was the photo I snapped of a cranky B in the car on the way to the tree farm. I am wondering which visiting family member taught him how to give someone the middle finger. There will be a reward for the person who turns in the guilty one.
He cheered up once we put him in the stroller and wheeled him over some bumpy terrain. We also stopped to get a couple of pictures in front of a giant, air-filled snowman. We are officially "those" people.
After we left the tree farm, Benjamin passed out in his car seat, and we made a brave trip to Target to exchange some Christmas lights and pick up a few other necessities. For the first time ever, Benjamin slept the entire trip. It was the first time I actually felt calm in that store...and I use the term "calm" loosely, as there were a ga-zillion people there.
When we got home, we hung out for awhile, and then Andrew set up the tree. Everyone in Happyville was hanging their lights today, so we might look a little lame, but I am just not a big fan of those "loud" looking lights. So, here are our 2 simple outdoor trees.
You can see the inside tree too. I haven't snapped a good picture of that one yet.
Weffriddles & Decongestant Friday, November 24, 2006
It's official. I am addicted to Weffriddles. We got stuck on level 13, and I've since realized that I would be better off to just step away from the computer.
In other news, Benjamin has a stinky cold, and is having a hard time breathing out of his nose. We called the pediatrician's office this morning, and they had us come in. The poor little guy doesn't understand what is going on, and of course, I just feel so sad for him. Andrew is working again tonight, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the overnight shift goes slightly better than last night.
I had to face the crowds of insane shoppers at Target today, just to pick up some nasal decongestant. Of course, I didn't realize until the safety seal was off, that I had gotten the wrong thing, and then Andrew had to run out and get the right stuff.
Tomorrow we get to go pick out a Christmas tree...I have had the holiday decorating itch for weeks, and am SO excited to put up the tree, and put the lights outside. I dragged everything up from the basement weeks ago.
Today entailed a LOT of cooking, a LOT of eating, and a short walk...that's honestly about it. Andrew just left for work for the night, so B and I are on our own. It's his grumpy time, although this cold has made him pretty grumpy all around today; but we've been playing on his mat, and with his favorite monkey, so things are looking up.
We ate my family's traditional thanksgiving dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, squash, cranberries, rolls, and green beans (sadly, sans almonds). I also made two pumpkin pies and two apple pies. Andrew took one of each pie into work for the potluck supper they had going on. Here's the bird before Andrew practiced his carving skills:
Mom...I got a shower squeezed in, with no problem at all. Just had to time it to the baby and the turkey's needs... See? My hair is still wet. Next year I will try to use the blow dryer! Don't mind B's face...it goes with the aforementioned disposition of today...
Today was a great day in Colorado! The sun was shining, it was nearly sixty degrees, we got the rest of our Turkey-day shopping done, and Benjamin played up a storm! In other good news today, my new winter boots arrived this morning, as did a birthday present for my favorite 7 year old, Tal, and the BEST part...I found my bracelet in the basket of the bean's stroller. In case you didn't hear me cry about the bracelet; it went missing 2 Saturdays ago, when Benjamin and I were out running errands. Once I realized it was missing, I called all the stores that I had visited, but nobody had turned it in. I just assumed that someone else was walking around wearing my birthday present (yes, it was only 3 months old) with my initials on it. Anyhow, I am thrilled that I found it!
Andrew is whipping up a Mexican Casserole for dinner, Benjamin is napping through his fussy time of day, and I am relaxing after working for most of the day.
Here's a nice little video of Benjamin playing like a mad-man this afternoon. Don't mind the outfit, Andrew pieced together a couple of random things. However, in his defense, I let the kid stay in his pjs all day yesterday, since we didn't go anywhere.
